Things you can do to manage arthritis pain

When at home, many of our patient’s experience pain in their joints when the day is almost over. Making it somehow impossible to reach their doctor for a remedy that will calm down the pain. Many quick recommended resources are pain killers, hot and cold ointments, and good night sleep.

As we mentioned already, a healthy balanced diet is the main key to help reduce the pain. However, this does not only apply in long term relief but also the short term.

Did you know that certain foods can cause inflammation on your body, leading to joint pain and uncomfortable days? According to many experts, certain foods seem to promote inflammation and should be avoided. Avoid eating processed foods, such as commercial baked goods and bars and many prepackaged meals. Red meat, refined grain products, and sugars, deep-fried foods and certain oils are common causes of inflammation as well.

It is important to balance your meals with anti-inflammatory ingredients that will also help you lose weight faster. Enrich your diet by eating the following:

  • Coldwater fish, such as tuna, salmon, mackerel, sardines, bass, and anchovies
  • Fresh and additive-free frozen fruits, including apples, apricots, bananas, berries, cantaloupe, grapes, kiwi fruit, oranges, papaya, pineapple, and avocados
  • Flaxseed and olive oils
  • Nuts, including almonds, walnuts, and macadamia nuts
  • Deep green vegetables, such as spinach, kale, Swiss chard, collards and broccoli
  • Other vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, onions, and sweet potatoes
  • Certain spices, including ginger and turmeric
  • Green tea and water, particularly mineral water
  • Whole grains, including wheat, rice, barley, buckwheat, bulgur wheat, millet, oats, and quinoa.
  • Flaxseeds, chia seeds, and tofu

Just remember, not because is not listed here, it doesn’t mean you can’t eat it or that you must eat it. Anti-inflammatory diets may vary from person to person, depending on their biology, allergies, and intolerances.
